Arrows Ostrava won Czech Baseball Cup
Czech Baseball Cup 2022 knows its winner. Arrows Ostrava, who didn’t have the best of the season, took the winner’s trophy.
In the series played as the best of three, it was Arrows who took the first game in Brno, when they won 8-5. Hroši sent in young pitchers Matěj Netopilík and Viktor Beránek. This time, however, it turn out to be an unlucky decision, despite overhitting Ostrava, as it was Arrows who could travel back home happier.
Arrows thus had an advantage at the home Arrows Park. Both teams relied on the young pitchers once again, with Ostrava starting Matěj Satoria, while Hroši sent in Jakub Bílek. Arrows took the lead, same as in the first game, and Hroši had to play a catch-up. Duo Petr Čech and Lukáš Trunkát were those who showed the best bats for the visitors, as they combined for 9 hits.
Once again Arrows ended up with fewer hits compared to their opponent, however, Hroši helped the home team with defensive errors. In the end, they finished with 6. It took them half of the game, but Hroši started to turn the momentum on their side. But Boris Bokaj then halted their offense, as he threw three scoreless innings to finish the game. In the end, Arrows ensured the win with 3 runs in the 7th inning and finishing with 13-9 win.
Arrows Ostrava could thus celebrate the first place at Czech Baseball Cup, which gave them a spot in European cups for 2023 season. This also marked the second time Arrows won the competition, the first one coming in 2014. On the other hand, Hroši are still waiting for their final cup win, as they finished as a losing finalist for the second time.
