U18 WC: One bad inning meant loss against Panama
A few hours after the end of the game against Mexico, Czech went to play another one. This time against Panama.
If there was something Czechs had trouble with on Friday, it was the defense. Panama took advantage of two errors in the second inning and they took 4-0 lead. Czechs managed to get a run back in the third inning thanks to Martin Sobotka.
But these were all the runs fans get to see. Vojtěch Ventruba who came in for starter Ondřej Vank pitched hitless four innings, without any walks given.
Czechs had a good chance to threaten Panama in the fifth inning, when the first two batters got on base. Unfortunately, then came a double play and we saw no more runners on bases afterwards.
The team lost their second Friday game and currently holds 2-2 record in Placement group, the same as Mexico. The final standings will be decided after the game against Venezuela. However, it is already clear Czech Republic won’t finish the last. Winnings against Venezuela could push Czechs to the 8th place, but we will have to watch results from other games.
