Slovak baseball Extraliga saw an excellent individual performance on Saturday. Oliver Pentek from Akademik Košice managed to finish the game with five hits.
Košice didn’t start the season well, when they lost to Trnava 0:16, followed by another loss to Apollo Bratislava (1:19) in the opening week.
But their third game was different, as they faced Maceitos Jelka and won 15:3. The huge win came no small part thanks to Oliver Pentek, who finished the game with 5 hits. It seems that thirty two year old player enjoys the games against Jelka. In the previous season he managed to get 5 hits against the same opponent, interestingly enough against the same pitcher as this time (Oskar Novák).
„Oliver Pentek is our long-term leader and he is an incredible player. You don’t see five hits in one game often, but Oliver’s disciple in the batting box and his strength started the great team performance. The 19 team hits ensured the win in the important game,“ said Akademik manager Max Martin.
Pentek played for the youth national team in the past and he also tried his luck abroad for Hroši Brno. In the end he ended up in a software company where he works as a developer and he now plays baseball as an amateur player.
„Our dugout was in a good mood for the entire game, which showed in the result. All players were focused. The efficiency in the offense and confidence on the mound from our new player Igor Matvieiev brought us the first victory. I would like to thank all my teammates for a nice game that I enjoyed fully,“ praised Oliver Pentek after the game.
Five hits in a game is not a common things. In North American MLB, where there were almost 240 thousand games played since its beginning, there were only 1196 games where fans could witness a similar feat.
